The weapons available to fight acne and acne breakouts keep getting better and better. I remember when the chief weapon of choice was the acne lotion. While going to school, the female students would be seen with these tubes in their bags and purses. These tubes would be tubes of acne lotion or acne gel. It was the norm back then. I did not have a big acne problem so I always wondered if I was missing out on something. I would watch my fellow students pamper themselves by placing these white substances on their faces and some students would play games with the lotion, putting a spot of lotion on their finger and pretending that it was a bomb closing in on the target which was indeed the pimple.
Then acne facials became the next major acne fighting weapon due to the rise of the health and beauty spa. The advent of the spa took acne facials to a new level. Everyone sought to find some spa just to be pampered. Never knew cucumbers over the eyes could feel so good.
The latest weapon of choice seems to be the acne gel. It does not involve the cucumbers over the eyes but in my view the marketing of the acne gel has glamorized it as the next best thing ‘since slice bread.’ The acne gel is said to be so effective that it can stand alone in the acne fight without help from an acne pill or any other medicine.
Time will tell if it is all hype and marketing or whether the acne gel can indeed live up to its billing. For certain, if the acne gel fails to deliver, it will face possible extinction. There are too many acne fighting products on the market and any new product that fails to deliver will not survive.
