Simple Tips to Reduce Acne Redness

by Jim Baldwin

Everyone knows that acne can leave a person’s face covered with annoying and embarrassing little bumps, but it is the redness that will make your breakouts much more noticeable. The skin on your face is incredibly sensitive, and blemishes, such as acne, cause it a great deal of irritation and stress. Often times we make the acne redness worse when we are trying to treat it. Since many people think breakouts are caused by poor hygiene, they scrub their face extra hard with harsh acne cleansers. This only irritates the area more, causing swelling and redness.

In order to deal this with this problem we must take special care to treat our face gently. If you want some quick and simple ways to rid yourself of this problem, then here are a few tips to help reduce acne redness.

The best way is to care for your skin so that bumps and blemishes do not occur in the first place. Use a mild, oil free cleanser, and a moisturizer that contains products designed to fight your breakouts, such as benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Gently wash your face twice a day, and make sure that you have a clean face before you hit the pillow. The key here is to not dry out your face. Scrubbing too hard and too often have two terrible side effects. First, they signal your body to start producing extra oil, directly leading to breakouts. Second, they really damage your skin and cause the redness that we were trying to avoid in the first place.

It is also important to drink a lot of water all day long. This will keep your skin hydrated, supple, and reduce redness and inflammation. The simplest way to get rid of acne redness is with cool water or ice. Redness is caused by inflammation and swelling, so applying something cool to the area will help reduce the inflammation and will go a long way in making it less noticeable. Remember not put ice directly on the skin, or leave it there too long as this can also damage the skin.

If these suggestions haven not worked, and you have a new blemish accompanied by new redness, then take a cotton swab and soak it with eye drop solution that is designed to clear up red eyes. The ingredients that soothe the redness and irritation in your eyes will have the same effect on your pimples. This is a great trick if a new blemish pops up before an important event, like a first date.

Applying products to your face that contain green tea can also help. This will help reduce the dilation that leads to your red skin. Green is also the word you should keep in mind when you are looking for a way to cover any blotchy patches. Green tinted concealer will neutralize the redness, and make your complexion look smoother and more even.

On days when you are having a particularly noticeable flare up of acne redness, take a piece of cloth, soak it in cold milk, and place it on the affected area for at least 15 minutes.

If none of these solutions seem to help reduce your acne redness, you may want to consider consulting a dermatologist. You might have a skin condition called rosacea, which is characterized by severely blotchy, red skin. He or she can give you a prescription for medication to help reduce inflammation, and make your skin looking healthy and beautiful.
