Although there are literally hundreds of acne treatment products sold at almost every store in the world, there are also many natural or homemade acne treatments that are just as effective. Most people think that treating a pimple at home just means popping pimples. However, this is the worst thing you can do to a pimple, and will just cause the situation to get worse.
For most cases of acne using a harsh over the counter treatment is just as bad. If a product is too harsh it will just irritate the area, causing pain and more breakouts. Sometimes the natural remedies are much more effective and there is no doubt that they cost much less than the creams and washes that are sold in stores. Below are some treatments and uses that can be made at home.
- Water – Drinking plenty of water has beneficial effects in many ways. It helps to rid your body of waste and also helps to make your skin healthier. This is the first thing people with acne problems need to change. Most of us do not stay properly hydrated, and this is the cause of many skin problems
- Lemon – This is also good for treating acne by simply rubbing it over your skin. The acidity works to kill of the bacteria on the skin. It also contains the antioxidant vitamin C, which is beneficial to the skin as well. Orange can be used this way as well. Be aware that this may sting a bit. Mixing it with honey and cinnamon has added benefits, as well as making it less painful.
- Apples and honey – Make a paste with apples and honey and allow the mixture to dry on your face for about 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Repeat two to three times per week.
- Oatmeal – A face mask made of oatmeal is very useful for treating acne. It absorbs the excess oils in your skin as it dries. First form a paste using oatmeal and water and put it on your face for up to 30 minutes. After that time wash it off with cold water. Use this mask two times every day for maximum benefits.
- Tomato – Take the pulp from a tomato and rub it on your face. After about 5 minutes or so rinse it off. This is similar to lemon juice method. The acid in the tomato will work to kill of the bacteria that causes your acne. It also contains vitamins A and C which are antioxidants that help you to get better skin.
A homemade acne treatment is better for your skin because you don not have the added side effects of putting harsh chemicals on your skin. The ingredients are all natural and while every treatment will not work for every person there probably is one that will work for you. Try to remember that every person is different and how well something does or does not work for you can depend on many things one of which being skin type.
Another very useful strategy in fighting acne is preventing it where and when possible. Although not every acne problem can be prevented it is known that the way you treat your body has a huge effect on the health of your skin. Steering clear of junk foods and excess sweets. It is a myth that eating chocolate or greasy foods will directly cause acne, but eating them will mean your immune system will not work optimally. This will mean your body will have a harder time fighting off the bacteria that is causing your pimples.
Aside from knowing what foods to stay away from it is also helpful to know which foods are beneficial and actually promote healthier skin. Green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach are good and of course citrus fruits. Other foods that are good are purple colored fruits and vegetables such as eggplant, plums and blueberries. Blueberries are full of antioxidants which are very good in promoting healthy skin. Remember that a healthier body will ultimately mean healthier skin.
These are by no means all the homemade acne treatments that are available to help in treating acne. They are only a select few that many consider to be the best ones. If they do not work for you there are many others that you can try that may be more effective. It is sometimes a long process to find one that works for you but through trial and error it can be found.
