Pimple Cream – Getting Rid of Acne

It is a common misconception that acne only plagues teenagers.  The truth is acne can affect those even in their adult years, in fact it is quite common.  To rid yourself of this problem there is are different steps you can take.  First a change in diet can greatly affect the production of oils and bacteria in the skin.  Others follow this up with frequent washings using medicated soaps and creams.  Creams can provide you with the greatest means of ridding yourself of acne as they target the pimple directly and some are even created to provide overnight relief.

There are many different pimple creams on the market that are created for different purposes.  Some are specifically targeted towards males, some towards females, teenagers, or adults.  There are also variations in the strengths of the main ingredient of acne creams.  The most common used ingredient is salicylic acid.

Salicylic acid targets the pimple where it starts inside the pore.  It travels deep within the pore and clears out the bacteria that mingles with oils and bacteria produced by the skin.  As debris from each pore is removed, redness and inflammation is reduced as well allowing for the pimple, or potential pimple, to heal naturally without invasive measures that can cause scarring.

Pimple cream is best used after the affected areas have been cleansed.  A mild acne soap is best to wash the face and body in before applying the treatment.  Washing the areas removes dead skin and lingering bacteria that can hinder the healing properties of the treatment.  Dead skin absorbs the cream but does allow it to reach the target area, deep within the pore.  Bacteria can also be spread if cream is used on unwashed areas.  The cream can actually gather this bacteria and germs and can be further spread across the body once you have begun rubbing the cream across affected areas.  In other words, start with a clean slate.  Make sure the area have been properly washed and then apply the pimple cream for maximum effectiveness and potency.

Over the counter acne creams come in strengths ranging from 1% of the active ingredient to 10% of the active ingredient.  Many wonder why not just use the strongest one and get it over with.  Before you grab just any cream consider your skin type, sensitivity, and the severity of the acne.  These creams are known to cause severe dryness and peeling to those who overuse it or have delicate skin.  If you have been known to react to even mild soaps, maximum strength pimple cream is not the best choice.  Treatments consisting of low doses of salicylic acid will be best.  Those with severe acne and sensitive skin should use moderate strength treatments once every other day to prevent peeling and over drying.  Following these guidelines will be sure to give you the greatest results.

Pimple creams can provide relief from even the most stubborn of acne pimples.  Teenagers and adults alike who use these creams are one step closer to their goal of being acne free.
