The weapons available to fight acne and acne breakouts keep getting better and better. I remember when the chief weapon of choice was the acne lotion. While going to school, the female students would be seen with these tubes in their bags and purses. These tubes would be tubes of acne lotion or acne gel. It was the norm back then. I did not have a big acne problem so I always wondered if I was missing out on something. I would watch my fellow students pamper themselves by placing these white substances on their faces and some students would play games with the lotion, putting a spot of lotion on their finger and pretending that it was a bomb closing in on the target which was indeed the pimple.

Then acne facials became the next major acne fighting weapon due to the rise of the health and beauty spa. The advent of the spa took acne facials to a new level. Everyone sought to find some spa just to be pampered. Never knew cucumbers over the eyes could feel so good.

The latest weapon of choice seems to be the acne gel. It does not involve the cucumbers over the eyes but in my view the marketing of the acne gel has glamorized it as the next best thing ‘since slice bread.’ The acne gel is said to be so effective that it can stand alone in the acne fight without help from an acne pill or any other medicine.

Time will tell if it is all hype and marketing or whether the acne gel can indeed live up to its billing. For certain, if the acne gel fails to deliver, it will face possible extinction. There are too many acne fighting products on the market and any new product that fails to deliver will not survive.

People of all ages suffer from the travesty that is acne and pimples. These little red devils can be frustrating, embarrassing, and even painful. The most extreme cases have prescription treatment options provided by dermatologists and infomercials on television, but some of us do not qualify for prescription acne treatments designed for people with severe acne. So what do you do about the occasion pimple or breakout of mild acne? Obviously taking antibiotics or using prescription creams is too extreme, but even the smallest of breakouts can wreak havoc on a hapless victim’s day.

Before you take matters into your own hands, you should keep a few things in mind. First, do not fall for the myth of over-washing your face. Washing your face too much can actually cause your face to dry out, and your skin will in turn produce more oil to compensate. Second, please do not pop your acne pimples; doing so can lead to unsightly scarring and can even spread your breakout. Third, do not do anything that you feel may not be entirely safe for your skin without consulting a dermatologist. And fourth, try not to panic, because you are not alone in your fight against this common skin disease.

Basic skin care starts with washing your face. Once or twice a day, gently wash with warm water and a very mild acne soap. Moisturize your face regularly with a non-comedongenic creams to prevent excess drying. If you wear makeup, make sure not to go to bed with makeup on.

There are whole shelves at the department stores devoted to the cure of acne. When buying topical treatments, look for some key ingredients on the boxes. The first ingredient, and one of the most common, is benzoyl peroxide. However, this can dry out your skin, so be sure to use an acne friendly moisturizer after you apply it. Another common ingredient is called salicylic acid, which help unclog pores, but it can also irritate your skin, so use it with caution.

One common regimen that works really well for people with mild acne is to wash your face with a gentle acne wash, dry off your face, apply liberal amounts of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, and then apply a moisturizer. Since the bacteria that causes acne cannot live in an environment that has oxygen in it, the benzoyl peroxide literally suffocates them to death. Using this method has worked well for many people, and should show fairly quick results in people with mild acne.

While over the counter drugs and treatments are known to work well, buying up a shopping cart full of ointment and creams can get expensive, and birth control pills can have some very severe side effects. Additionally, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, chemical and internal treatments could have adverse side effects on your baby. Therefore, many sufferers of the pimple curse turn to natural treatments to cool the red devils down.

Most people who must deal with acne are very concerned about developing permanent scars from these blemishes. Using aloe vera is a great way to prevent this, and is a great tool for healing a face that has been damaged by acne. Most people only use it on sunburns, but pimples are spots of inflamed skin, too. Also, aloe vera has some mild antibacterial properties that could help clear up your zits, as well.

Taking vitamins A, E, and B can also heal skin from the inside, improving the overall look of your face.

Drinking water may seem like an obvious answer, but toxins in your body can exit your through your skin, so enough water can help flush out your system.

Regular exercise can also get your pores open and help in improving your skin.

You can also use at home masks made from common kitchen ingredients. Mixing tomato pulp, honey, and rose water and leaving it on your face for twenty minutes is fast and simple. You can also use plain honey for thirty minutes and wash it off; sticky, but effective. You can also crush a cucumber, mix in a little fresh orange juice and some clay powder to make an fast, at-home mask.

While there is no cure for acne, these treatments can get you on your way towards a life with a healthier, fresher face that you won’t have to cover with heavy, greasy foundation ever again.

It is the age-old question, does stress cause pimples? Research has been limited but there are a many that believe stress and pimples go hand in hand.

Why Does Stress Cause Pimples?

The reasons that stress causes pimples are varied and wildly debated.. Stress is the body’s reaction to circumstances that seem to be out of our control. For example, your spouse calls and tells you that he is bringing the boss home for dinner, and its four o’clock, guess what time dinner is? Yep you guessed it, dinner is at five and the house is a total disaster. When this happens, the body begins to produce extra hormones.

These extra hormones lead to increased oil production in the pores. The oil will then back up under the skin due to blockages from our normal skin shedding. In short stress can cause you to break out, or can make a current break out worse.

In this study (link) researchers found teenagers who were under a lot of stress were 23% more likely to have increased acne severity.

Another stress related actions that can impact your skin are nervous habits. If you are a person who constantly rubs or handles an area of the face during stressful times, you may find you have increased out breaks. The reason for this is that our hands carry all kinds of bacteria. Moreover, when you rub your forehead for instance you are transferring these foreign substances to your skin and into your pores, which will lead to blockages.

How to Cure Stress Induced Acne

The first step in addressing stress related acne is simple, just relax! For some of us that is easier said than done. The following are some relaxation techniques you can use when you feel the stress beginning to rise.

Take a warm bath, this will relax your muscles and you will get the added benefit of washing away excess dirt and oils that can also cause acne.

Take long deep breathes in and out through the nose the concentration required will help you focus on something other than the circumstance at hand, in addition deep breathing releases endorphins, the bodies own pain killers.

Always keep your hands clean and away from your face! Whether you are stressed or not touching your face can still produce acne.

Finally, if you find yourself in a high stress situation that does not allow for any relaxation techniques be sure and take extra care with your skin using mild soap to clean it along with good water based moisturizer.

The Clinique Acne Solutions starter kit is a great product for treating stress and pimples. You can even get your hands on this product for free.

Everyone’s body is different, which means some acne treatments systems just won’t work for you. That doesn’t mean the product doesn’t work, just that it isn’t right for you. The process is mostly a guessing game, and the search can be extremely annoying. Acne products aren’t cheap, so if you’re not lucky you could end up spending a fortune unless you are able to find some acne free coupons.

When I first started dealing with acne it took me 10 different products before I found one that worked. When I started this website one of my main goals was to provide a list of available acne free coupons, and work with manufacturers to provide free samples of acne medicine.

Getting acne free coupons would help reduce the financial burden of finding the right acne product for you. You can find acne free coupons and free samples of acne medicine HERE.

While many people consider pimples on the face to be a teenage problem, body acne is a problem which affects many adults in their 20s, 30s and beyond. Tight clothing worn for work (or pleasure) is one of the main causes for body acne. Stress only serves to make this condition even worse.

Body acne is difficult to treat for a few reasons:

Body acne often forms in hard to reach areas such as the back, shoulders and buttocks.

Most people have only dealt with facial acne, so you’ve never learned how to treat body acne.

Most products are only made to treat facial acne. There are very few anti-acne body creams available.

Many people find body acne to be even more of a pain to deal with than facial acne. It’s harder to treat, more painful, and so embarrassing that many who have it will avoid any situation where someone might be able to see their blemished skin.

Thankfully someone has finally developed a product that was to specifically treat the body acne that so many of us suffer from. The Clear Pores Body System was designed with you in mind. This doctor endorsed, and customer friendly, product will ensure you never have to be afraid to show your skin ever again. In fact, Clear Pores will give you great skin that you’ll want to show off at every opportunity.

The system consists of an anti-acne deep body wash, an herbal supplement that fights acne from the inside out, and an anti-acne body protection cream that prevents sweat and bacteria from clogging up your pores during the day.

Popping zits is an activity most people with acne participate in daily. It’s even something that is considered fun by many. Well, no matter how bad the temptation is, don’t do it. Popping zits is bad for your skin, no matter how embarrassing it may be to leave the pimple alone.

A pimple forms when you have too much sebum, a substance that lubricates the skin. Your pore than becomes too full of sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria, causing a pimple to appear. When you pop this pimple, you may force all the excess stuff back down into your follicle. The whole reason the pimple formed in the first place is because this stuff was too much for the pore to handle, so popping zits just makes the situation worse because now the follicle walls may rupture and the material may leak even further.

If this occurs, the material most likely spills into the dermis, which is the innermost layer of your skin. From here, popping zits may cause nodules or cysts. Nodules are extremely painful. They appear as hard, red lumps under the skin and are caused by the ruptured follicle leaking into the dermis and infecting other follicles. Nodules take much longer to go away than normal pimples do.

If a cyst occurs, it has to be treated by a doctor, and treatment varies based on the seriousness of the cyst. So in addition to causing some wicked scars, popping zits can lead to a whole host of other problems. Make sure you avoid any further damage by keeping your hands off.

Pimples are the bane of many a teenager’s life, and there are as many products on the market as there are people. All these products promise to do the same thing, rid you of pimples. For some people they either do not work or are cost prohibitive. So what to do when you get up and find a zit on your face? Get out the toothpaste? It seems this has become a favorite home remedy for many people. The question is will it work? So far, the results seem to be mixed.

There are those who swear by its effectiveness and others who say loudly, no way! First, let’s look at what everyone does agree on.

Toothpaste will dry a pimple out

It is best used as an overnight treatment

It can irritate the skin

Use only white paste no gels

Try a small area first for 15-20 minutes

The idea to use toothpaste as a spot treatment is probably because many types of toothpaste contain triclosan. Triclosan is an antibacterial ingredient often added to personal care items like soap and even acne treatments.

Toothpaste also acts like a mask in that it will draw impurities from the skin, including the bacteria that make up a pimple. Inside the pores are sebaceous glands, which produce sebum. When the outer layers of the skin shed as they often do they can become glued together and block the pore. More sebum is produced behind the blockage, that sebum contains bacteria. Hence, the reasons so many find toothpaste to be so helpful.

It seems to me the verdict is this, toothpaste can help but if you have very sensitive skin or allergies, it may cause more problems than it fixes. If you fall into this category, you may need to stick with commercial products or see your physician.
